SmartSkim Rolls Out "The Boss" Magnetic Separator

SmartSkim is pleased to announce the addition of "The Boss" to it's line of high powered rare-earth magnetic separators for industrial fluids.   The Boss is a 10,000 gauss rated magnetic that has the ability to remove sub-micron ferrous fines from a variety of applications.     The Boss can be used to improve and extend the life of machining coolants, quench fluids, and parts washer baths.

The Boss - 10,000 gauss
magnetic separator for filter
housings
The Boss is designed to be installed into existing or newly installed bag filter housings.   The Boss is currently available for size #2 housings.   The standard unit can handle fluid temperatures up to 175F.  In addition to improved and extended fluid life, The Boss will greatly reduce the amount of consumable filter bags that are used in your operations.  After implementing The Boss, one large automotive customer went from changing out a 20 micron bag filter on a broaching operation from once every 40 minutes to once every 24 hours.

SmartSkim Retrofits Existing Equipment

Do you have an oil water separator that you don’t use to its capacity due to poor skimming techniques? Do you have a coolant recycling system that has been abandoned due to the centrifuge or coalescer not working or requiring too much ongoing maintenance? With the assistance of our SmartSkim technologies, you can greatly enhance existing equipment and make it a productive part of your facility again.

“As customers come to us looking for solutions to remove contaminants from their industrial fluids, we often find that they already have equipment in their facility that could be used in creating a solution with the assistance of some retrofitting from our technology,” commented Bill Gimbel, V.P. of Sales for SmartSkim. “We make the best skimmers and separators in the industry. However, if a customer has already invested in a previous piece of equipment, they usually don’t want to completely walk away from that investment. Oftentimes they end up buying our skimmer to use with the separator that they purchased elsewhere. While we would have preferred to sell them the entire SmartSkim system, we know that they are now utilizing their previous investment. When they go to buy that next oil water separator system, they will come to SmartSkim for the entire package. This also fits into our philosophy of having long-term relationships with our customers.”

In addition to bringing life to underutilized oil water separators, SmartSkim has done extensive work with equipment used to recycle machining coolants. SmartSkim has been able to re-start systems that were shut-down due to the high cost of maintenance. Coolant recycling systems with centrifuge technology often sit idle due to a maintenance staff’s inability to keep up with the constant cleaning requirements of centrifuges. “We’ll replace the centrifuge with our low maintenance, all stainless steel coalescer. Customers notice no real change in performance, but a significant reduction in maintenance,” commented Gimbel. “We also have rare-earth magnetic products that do a great job of removing metallic fines. Metallic fines can do extensive damage to tooling if not removed from dirty coolant. Many older recycling systems were built prior to today’s rare-earth technologies.”

SmartSkim Magnetic Filters extend tool life and reduce costs for coolant filtering

Do sumps filled with sludge and swarf have you gasping for air? Breathe easier with a SmartSkim magnetic filtering system. Save money, save wear and tear on your tools, and help the environment all at the same time.

The SmartSkim high-power neodymium rare-earth magnetic filtering system will remove the metal fines in your coolant, and the potentially rancid bacteria they create, and your sludge will become one less conern for your operations and your workers.

Keeping coolant clean can be a daunting task. As coolant runs through machinery, it naturally picks up metal fines and other scrap. If left unfiltered, sludge and swarf will accumulate at the bottom of your sumps.

Removing sludge from sumps is a laborious, time-consuming and frankly, distasteful task. Costs for the process add up quickly: production stops and old coolant must be removed before cleaning the sump. After the sludge is removed, it must be collected, transported and disposed.

SmartSkim has worked with hundreds of machining shops to provide our in-line rare-earth magnets that attack the small fines in your slurry before it becomes sludge or swarf.
